About Dobby:
Dobby, a house elf, who belongs to the Malfoy family, makes friends with Harry and makes multiple attempts to save his life. He is killed by Bellatrix Lestrange in the seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows while assisting Harry and his friends in fleeing Malfoy Manor. Molly Weasley killed Bellatrix Lestrange to exact revenge on him. In addition to being a supporting role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, he plays a significant role in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Dobby and many other house elves, including Winky, the elf that Barty Crouch Sr. fired, started working in the Hogwarts kitchens after Harry couldn’t find employment during his third year of school.
To the dismay of the other elves who thought him a crazy outsider for his independent behavior, Dobby’s only demand was to be permitted to wear clothes. Dobby spent a lot of time at Aberforth Dumbledore’s Hogsmeade residence and grew close to him during his time working at Hogwarts. Aberforth expressed regret upon learning of Dobby’s passing, suggesting a strong emotional bond between them. Hermione thought everyone loved the clothes she made as Christmas presents for all of the hardworking house elves at Hogwarts. Dobby admitted to Harry that he had accepted all of those gifts himself because, to them, clothing is an insult and a sign of unemployment. He passed away sparing the Malfoys and Voldemort’s wrath from Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna Lovegood, Dean Thomas, Garrick Ollivander, and Griphook. Aberforth had sent him to assist them, but Bellatrix Lestrange killed him.
Characteristic:
Dobby was a house elf who stood only three and a half feet (1.06 meters) tall, considerably smaller than a human. He was brown-skinned, with a pencil-like nose, long, pointed ears that resembled bats, and green eyes the size of tennis balls]. He had on a body-covering pillowcase before being released. He wore a mismatched assortment of socks, shorts, and jumpers later at Hogwarts. His favorite item of clothing to wear after being set free by Harry’s sock was socks. He liked his socks colorful and ill-fitting. Dobby kept the clothes and started wearing them when Hermione Granger started hiding them throughout the Gryffindor Common Room to free the Hogwarts house elves. As a result, the other elves stopped cleaning Gryffindor Tower.
About Dobby’s Appearance In the Second Part Of the Series:
After defeating Tom Riddle’s memory and slaying the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets at the end of that academic year, Harry deceived Lucius Malfoy into releasing Dobby. Harry achieved this by putting his sock inside T. M. Riddle’s Diary. Disgusted, Lucius tore the sock from the book and tossed it into the air, where Dobby managed to catch it.
During his time unemployed, Dobby experienced social exclusion because he lacked “proper shame” about his joblessness. In general, he was happy to be free, even though he enjoyed his work as a hobby. Dobby was thrilled to join the Hogwarts staff in addition to being relieved that he was no longer under the Malfoys’ abusive control. He was free to come and go from Hogwarts, had few assignments, and the ones he did have were quite easy. Dobby eventually reached an understanding with Dumbledore regarding the remuneration he should receive for his labor.
Dobby’s Appearance In Movies & Books:
Regardless of the Harry Potter book’s author J. K. Rowling’s cautions, Dobby was cut from the film versions of all of his subsequent recurring roles following The Chamber of Secrets. As a result, he only made a surprise reappearance in the seventh movie, having been absent from the majority of the previous films.
Similar to Kreacher, Dobby’s relationships and bonds with Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Harry were left out of the movies. Other characters in the movies receive his primary supporting roles in the books, primarily Neville Longbottom:
Dobby finds the gillyweed and brings it to Harry in the fourth book. In an attempt to help Neville, Barty Crouch Jr., posing as Alastor Moody, had given Neville a book about herbs in the past. However, Neville never asked for assistance, so Crouch tricked Dobby into taking a helping of gillyweed to give to Harry instead. In the movie adaptation, Crouch’s initial scheme is successful when Neville locates the gillyweed for Harry.
When Dolores Umbridge forbade all clubs at Hogwarts in the fifth book, Harry hesitantly asked Dobby if he knew of a location where they could meet as Dumbledore’s Army. Dobby explained to him how to enter the Room of Requirement. He was aware of this hidden chamber, as he had regularly utilized it to conceal Winky following her inebriation from Butterbeer. Harry was able to start having Dumbledore’s Army meetings after he managed to make use of the room. With a little bit of luck, Neville discovers the Room of Requirement in the fifth film while strolling by it.
During Harry’s lesson, Dobby appeared in the Room of Requirement to warn the students about the impending arrival of Dolores Umbridge and her Inquisitorial Squad after learning about Dumbledore’s Army. Marietta Edgecombe, a friend of Cho Chang’s, betrayed Dumbledore’s Army to Umbridge.
Dobby promptly alerted everyone to the impending attack by the Inquisitorial Squad, despite the house elves’ orders not to inform anyone. However, he told Harry because he was a free elf who was not required to obey and was far more loyal to Harry Potter than to Umbridge or Hogwarts in general. Harry told Dobby not to punish himself for defying an explicit command from Umbridge as soon as he heard. Following a chase by Draco Malfoy and the other members of the Inquisitorial Squad, Draco managed to capture Harry. Despite Dobby’s caution, Umbridge managed to obtain Hermione’s list, which exposed every D.A. member and resulted in their punishment. In the movie version, Dobby isn’t there to warn them, so everyone gets caught at once during their lesson.
Harry gave Dobby and Kreacher, the house elf that used to belong to the House of Black but was now Harry’s, an assignment in the sixth book to track down Draco Malfoy and find out where he goes missing during the day. After pursuing Draco, Dobby and Kreacher informed Harry that Draco was utilizing the Room of Requirement. Draco would make a better master, Kreacher said, insulting Harry. After Dobby defeated Kreacher, he sobbed and informed him that Harry was a powerful wizard and that the Malfoys were not suitable house elf masters. Dobby didn’t even get any sleep on the job because he thought it was an honor to help Harry. Harry follows Draco in the movie.
Dobby is not a slave! Dobby, a liberated elf, has arrived to preserve Harry Potter and his companions.”
— Dobby was the most endearing and enduring character in the Harry Potter series because of his pride in being a free elf and his devotion to Harry Potter.
