Born on the alien planet Mobius, he is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with the unique ability to control chaos energy, which allows him to travel at supersonic speed. Ben Schwartz, who also voices Skidmark in Turbo, Dewey Duck in the 2017 DuckTales reboot, Randy Cunningham in 9th Grade Ninja, Leonardo in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Banarnar in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and Mark in DC League of Super-Pets, is responsible for both the voice acting and motion capture for this character.
Background of Sonic:
Growing up under the guardianship of Longclaw, an anthropomorphic owl, Sonic was raised on an island on the extraterrestrial planet Mobius. Because of his extraordinary speed and unique capacity to control chaos energy, he became a target for those who desired to seize power for themselves. To Longclaw’s dismay, the owl thought he might be being followed when Sonic one day hurried across his island home to deliver a flower. Longclaw grabs the hedgehog as it tries to flee after noticing that echidna tribesmen have surrounded her house, despite Sonic’s assurance that he was moving too quickly to be seen.
Sadly, one of them shoots Longclaw down from the sky with an arrow. She then uses a golden warp ring to create a portal to Earth and warns Sonic that as long as people are aware of his power, they will be trying to take it from him. She then gives him instructions to enter the portal with her bag of gold rings so he can live in safety in a world where no one knows he exists. All Sonic can do is watch in horror as Longclaw valiantly gets ready to take one last swing at the echidnas before the portal shuts, severing his connection to her and abandoning him here on Earth.
After ten years, Sonic is abandoned on Earth to create his new life in secret. He lives in a cave and observes the people of Green Hills, Montana, USA, from a distance. Other than an old man named Crazy Carl, who believes Sonic is a blue devil and has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to capture him, none of them were aware of Sonic’s existence, which Sonic finds amusing.
Tom Wachowski, the Green Hills sheriff, and his wife, Dr. Maddie Wachowski, the veterinarian, are two of the town’s most beloved residents in Sonic’s opinion. After using his lightning-fast speed to play a game of baseball by himself one night, Sonic characters come to terms with his true loneliness.
In an attempt to let go of his frustrations, he ran so quickly that he set off an electromagnetic pulse that caused power outages throughout the Pacific Northwest. When word of this reaches the Pentagon in Arlington, the US Department of Defense becomes interested. Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Commander Walters chooses to enlist the assistance of the insane genius Dr. Robotnik to investigate the cause of the power outage, even though the Joint Chiefs have expressed some concern.
Special Powers:
Superhuman Speed: Sonic’s speed is his primary ability. Even Tails has declared that Sonic is the galaxy’s fastest creature. As demonstrated by Sonic taking out the punk leader during a bar fight and destroying Dr. Robotnik’s drones in Transamerica Pyramid, he is said to be able to move at supersonic speeds, making it appear as though time has stopped from his perspective. To everyone else, he is just a blue blur. He can even travel great distances without any problems.
Sonic’s signature move is Spin Attack. It can roll and shape-shift into a ball, using his spikes to attack, with enough force to destroy one of Robotnik’s mobile vehicles.
Empowerment with Chaos Energy: Sonic can naturally release Chaos Energy from his body, which grants him super-speed. To transform into Super Sonic, he can also gather power from the seven Chaos Emeralds. It appears that his emotional state is connected to this power. Extreme emotions will cause Sonic to release blue energy, which will glow blue in his eyes and quills and cause his body to erupt in lightning-bolt-like energy bursts.
Superhuman Durability and Strength: Sonic can dent stone or metal objects without suffering any physical harm, but a blast is enough to render him unconscious. In combat, he can also deal a great deal of damage to Knuckles and repeatedly absorb powerful blows from the latter without much resistance.

Sonic is a slender, anthropomorphic hedgehog with peach skin covering his arms, muzzle, inner ears, and front torso and blue fur covering the majority of his body. He has two spines that extend from his back behind his shoulders, a short tail, six long quills on the back of his head, and small, triangular ears on top of his head. Before the Chaos incident, Sonic was a shorter, stubbier boy with a round head and torso, black eyes, and a round body. After that crisis, he became taller and thinner, and his eyes turned green. He was also frequently depicted as having peach-skinned eyelids before the Neo Metal Sonic incident until they were eventually also shown to be blue. Sonic’s outfit consists of a pair of white gloves with cuffs that resemble socks on the hands and red boots with a white strap, cuff, and gold buckle.
Movie Adaptations:
Sega of America inked a contract with Trilogy Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures in August 1994 to create a live-action animated movie that would correspond with Sonic X-treme. Screenwriter Richard Jefferies presented Sega with a treatment titled Sonic the Hedgehog: Wonders of the World in May 1995. To stop Eggman, Sonic teamed up with a boy, and the two of them managed to escape Sonic X-treme and enter the real world. The movie was canceled because no agreement could be reached. Jeffries submitted his treatment to DreamWorks Animation with permission from Sega, but it was turned down.
