In the South Park franchise, Stanley William “Stan” Marsh serves as the primary character. In the 1999 animated film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut as well as the adult animated comedy sitcom South Park, he plays the lead role.

Stan Marsh is a boy of eight or ten years old who attends the town’s elementary school in the fourth grade and lives in South Park, Colorado. The most frequent sightings of him are with his buddies, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick. As members of an ensemble cast, they alternately assign equal attention to various characters. In addition, he is Wendy Testaburger’s romantic interest and Butters Stotch’s best friend. Trey Parker, a co-creator of the series, provides his voice. He is portrayed by Zoran Samardžić in the Croatian dub.

Appearance:

The majority of the time, Stan is seen sporting blue jeans, a red puffball and rimmed blue hat, and a brown jacket with a red collar. Either a white T-shirt/v-neck or a red and blue baseball shirt is worn underneath his jacket. In addition, he dresses in a green suit on special occasions and a blue Terrance and Phillip shirt to bed. In certain episodes, when his hat is taken off entirely or partially—first seen in “A Very Crappy Christmas”—it becomes evident that he has black hair, just like his father Randy.

In the “Lil’ Crime Stoppers” shower scene, all of the boys take off their hats and their hair is visible for a considerable amount of time; however, Kenny’s head is only visible from behind.

When Butters draws their cartoon versions in “A Very Crappy Christmas,” Kyle remarks that Stan also appears to have blue eyes. However, this is debatable because Kyle claimed that Stan’s eyes were similar because he had a sharper nose, so it might have been an error.

Butters likely made a mistake when his eyes were blue because he was depicted as having brown eyes in “Good Times with Weapons”. Stan has always worn his red and blue hat—as seen in “Pre-School”—even as a small child, and he even sleeps in it.

Personality:

Of the four boys, Stan is arguably the most sensitive, relatable, and depressed. His sense of humor is deadpan, and he finds himself frequently annoyed by his father’s and adult society’s general ignorance. He is shown learning how the adult world functions in several episodes, and in nearly all of them, he ends up turning away in complete shock at the ridiculous reasoning of the adult. He was given an Asperger’s diagnosis as well, and by the end of the Ass Burgers episode, he had secretly started consuming Jameson whiskey to lift his spirits.

Stan frequently demonstrates a lot of admirable qualities, like bravery, kindness, and patience. Stan is not that far behind his super best friend Kyle, who is arguably the most compassionate of the four boys and is much more consistently nice than almost every character in the show (except Butters Stotch). Stan is kind, but he can also be conceited at times, especially when it comes to some subjects and problems.

Additionally, he frequently gives up on everything after becoming enraged—usually by Cartman and, later in the season, by his father Randy’s ignorance. Additionally, Stan tends to selfishness. In “Butterballs,” for example, Stan is determined to make an anti-bullying video to highlight the dangers of bullying. However, as Kyle pointed out, Stan made the video primarily for himself, wanting to look good in front of his classmates. It would have been wiser to post the video online so that anyone could watch it.

Skills:

  • Soundtrack: Stan seems to have a lot of musical talent. Despite having achieved a legendary score and ranking in the top 1% of Guitar Hero, he and Kyle were referred to as “Fags” by the game’s announcer in “Guitar Queer-O”. However, he has also accomplished the real thing; most notably, he was the lead vocalist for the death metal band Crimson Dawn (“Band in China”), with Butters providing clean backup vocals and leading performance alongside Kenny on bass and Jimmy on drums.
  • Leadership: Stan is usually the one to inspire the other boys because of his moral convictions, even though there isn’t a clear leader among his main group of friends, as demonstrated in episodes like “Fun with Veal”.
  • Arms: Stan seems skilled with weaponry for his age. He managed to get his hands on an M16 assault rifle in “Red Sleigh Down” (though he never used it), and a handgun in “Mystery of the Urinal Deuce”. With the help of a flare gun, Stan caused the Japanese whaling ship in “Whale Whores” to explode by shooting a flare into its fuel storage. In the same episode, he commandeered the Sea Shepard and used her powerful arsenal—which for a 9-year-old included Molotov cocktails and a large caliber deck gun—to sink a fleet of Japanese whaling ships. Uncle Jimbo’s influence is probably what makes him proficient.
  • Driving: Stan is only in the fourth grade, but he already knows how to drive. In addition to driving a car, he can also maneuver a bus (“Night of the Living Homeless”), a boat (“Two Days Before The Day After Tomorrow”), and a sleigh (“Red Sleigh Down”).
  • Sports: Stan is not an athlete, but he is skilled in the gym. He played soccer in the past, is a competent basketball player but not as good as Kyle, and briefly participated in the school’s pee-wee and wrestling teams. He engages in dodgeball as well. He has a history of skiing outside of school, having defeated an accomplished skier named Tad. Stan is the baseball team’s captain and pitcher in the summer, even though he and his friends detest the game because their parents made them play it.

For the lighthearted and occasionally controversial tone of the show, Stan occasionally commits crimes. Despite having a sensitive nature and strong morals, he nevertheless errs on the side of goodness and frequently commits crimes inadvertently or with a minimal but still significant mitigating factor. Though Kenny is arguably the most heroic of the four (especially as Mysterion), only he and Kyle cannot be categorized as villains, like in South Park: Cartman is a completely morally ambiguous foul-mouthed fat kid with racist, sexist, selfish, and demeaning remarks, or an anti-hero, antagonist, or protagonist villain. Princess Kenny is a villain.

Stan, a student in Mr. Garrison’s Fourth Grade (formerly Third) class at South Park Elementary is a . Stan’s mother Sharon works as a secretary at Tom’s Rhinoplasty, while his father Randy is a geologist. Roy was his stepfather in “Clubhouses” for a brief period. A fictitious character named Stanley “Stan” Marsh appears in the adult animated television series South Park. Trey Parker, the co-creator of the series, provided his voice and inspired him somewhat. Stan, along with Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, are the four main characters of the series.
