John Matuszak is a cast member of The Goonies. It was the man hiding beneath the visage of Sloth. The former American football player spent five hours a day. It is to get ready for the part in the makeup chair. The attractive actor had already amassed a sizable fan following. It is after appearing in a Playgirl picture shoot. Let’s discuss about Sloth Goonies in detail:

Overview of Sloth Goonies

  • The Goonies is an American excitement comedy film. It was released in 1985 and was co-produced & directed by Richard Donner. It was based on a screenplay by Chris Columbus & starred Sean Astin. Anne Ramsey, John Matuszak, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano, and Mary Ellen Trainor played the supporting roles in the film. The film was written and directed by Donner.
  • A group of young people from Astoria, Oregon are in the movie Goon Docks. The neighborhood tries to keep their houses from going into foreclosure. They come upon an ancient treasure map. This map sets them on a quest to find the long-lost wealth of fabled 17th-century pirate One-Eyed Willy. They’re being pursued by a family of thieves. They want to keep the treasure for themselves during the trip.

Plot of Goonies

  • Oregon grows a gang of kids which is known as “the Sloth Goonies”—Mikey, Data, Mouth, and Chunk. These face foreclosure on their homes in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood. They get together for one last weekend before it all ends. When the Walshes are going through their attic, they find a 1632 doubloon and an ancient treasure map that says it contains the location of the fabled pirate “One-Eyed Willy’s” riches. One-Eyed Willy is the original Goonie, in Mikey’s opinion.

Plot of Goonies

  • The youngsters defeat and bind Mikey’s older brother Brand, viewing the treasure as their final opportunity to save their homes. They then proceed to an abandoned restaurant on the seaside that is marked on the map. Brand soon comes, accompanied by Stef, Andy’s friend, and Andy, a cheerleader who has a thing for him.
  • Eventually, the crew learns that Francis, Jake, and their mother, the Fratelli crime family, use the abandoned restaurant as a hideout. Chunk heads off to call the police, but the Sloth Goonies discover a tunnel in the basement and follow it. Chunk signals to a driver to proceed to the sheriff’s office, only to find out that the driver is being held captive by the Fratellis and their massive, malformed younger brother Sloth.
  • After questioning Chunk to find out where the Goonies have disappeared, the Fratellis start chasing after him. Chunk departs, making friends with Sloth along the way. Chunk phones the sheriff, who believes it’s just another of Chunk’s fantastic tales after Sloth frees the two of them. Chunk and Sloth tracing the Fratellis’ path.

Appearance of Sloth in The Goonies

Due to his mother dumping him several times when he was a baby, Sloth has distorted looks and is extremely tall and muscular. His eyes are crooked, and he barely has a few teeth visible. This is the reason Chunk is terrified of him at first.

Involvement of John Matuszak

  • When we first see Sloth Goonies, she is shackled and being tormented by Jake’s awful singing in a chamber. When food is left just out of reach, sly Mikey moves the dish closer so he may take a bite to eat. Chunk is restrained and imprisoned in the same chamber as Sloth following his capture and questioning by the Fratellis.
  • Sheepishly, Chunk tries to introduce himself to Sloth, but when he sees him, he becomes terrified and cries out for assistance. Chunk eventually tries to become friends with him because they both love food and when he does, he slaps him in the head with a Baby Ruth bar. Sloth tears his chains from the wall, desperate to get his hands on the chocolate bar.

Behind the Scenes of Sloth Goonies

  • Football player John Matuszak plays the role of Sloth. An animatronic, makeup, and prosthetics combination was used to shape the character’s face. Matuszak wore fifteen different facial prostheses. The ears and lower eye were mechanical devices that blinked via radio control; Sloth’s entire face required four hours of makeup application. During production, several iterations of his prosthetics and makeup were developed and employed.

Behind the Scenes of Sloth Goonies

  • An earlier version that was more “smooth and cartoonish” was eventually left out of the movie. Still, certain promotional materials feature it, such as some Goonies Topps trading cards. In the original, The Sloth Goonies were shown at the end of the film spitting and bursting up jewels, which is how the Goon Docks are kept from being destroyed. A longer take of the sheriff’s phone call sequence was shot, in which Sloth devoured a whole T-bone steak; this scene was removed from the movie.
  • A concluding scene with everyone partying at the Walsh mansion and a sequence where Sloth and Chunk found the way the Goonies departed were omitted from the final version. The video for the latter one has never been made public, but it demonstrates that Sloth was adopted by the Cohen family.

Music & Soundtrack

  • Original Motion Picture The Goonies Cyndi Lauper, REO Speedwagon, The Bangles, and more musicians are featured on the soundtrack. There’s a cameo by Steven Spielberg. Even though the song wasn’t finished until after production, Lauper made a brief appearance in the movie and performed it on television.
  • For twenty-five years, Dave Grusin’s score was not available. The main theme “Fratelli Chase” was remastered by Grusin and the London Symphony Orchestra for the album Cinemagic. It has been featured in several trailers, including Innerspace, Scrooged, and Guarding Tess. The Adventures of Don Juan theme by Max Steiner is heavily used in the score.

Conclusion

Lotney Fratelli is Sloth Goonies’ genuine name; the movie never mentions this. Superman is Sloth’s favorite superhero; this alludes to Richard Donner’s earlier Superman and Superman II movies. A brief theme from John Williams’ Superman music plays as he tears off his shirt. Sloth also enjoys watching vintage pirate films, such as those featuring Errol Flynn. His Raiders outfit alludes to the NFL franchise that Matuszak was then signed to.
